UNIDO supports capacity building and identification of industrial symbiosis opportunities at Tan Do Industrial Park – a significant step forward in the transition towards an Eco-Industrial Park model

On 26 December 2025, at Phu Thang Grand Hotel in Tan Do Industrial Park, Tay Ninh province, the project “Implementing Eco-Industrial Park Approaches for Circular Economy Transition in Viet Nam,” funded by the Government of Switzerland through SECO and implemented by the Ministry of Finance and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), organized a workshop on “Training and Identification of Potential Industrial Symbiosis Opportunities for Enterprises in Tan Do Industrial Park.”

The event brought together representatives of the Tay Ninh Economic Zone Authority, the Tan Do Industrial Park developer, enterprises operating in the park, as well as technical experts and consulting partners.

In her opening remarks, Ms. Nguyen Tram Anh, representing the Eco-Industrial Park Project Management Unit, highlighted that industrial symbiosis is a core pillar of the Eco-Industrial Park model, helping improve resource efficiency, reduce emissions, optimize production costs, and enhance business competitiveness. She reaffirmed UNIDO’s commitment to working closely with local authorities, the park developer, and the business community to support the ecological transition.

During the workshop, ENTEC Consulting delivered technical insights on industrial symbiosis, covering key concepts, economic and environmental benefits, practical experiences from Viet Nam and abroad, and UNIDO’s tools that help identify and assess the feasibility of industrial symbiosis opportunities.

Through interactive discussions and hands-on group work with active participation from businesses, the workshop identified 14 potential industrial symbiosis opportunities for Tan Do Industrial Park. These opportunities were then prioritized based on their feasibility and expected economic and environmental benefits, creating a solid foundation for planning and implementation in the next phase.

The workshop forms part of the Project’s broader technical assistance activities in Tay Ninh province, aimed at strengthening stakeholder capacity and promoting the adoption of industrial symbiosis solutions at Tan Do Industrial Park, in line with Viet Nam’s direction towards eco-industrial development, circular economy, and sustainable growth.

Based on the priority opportunities identified, the Project will next conduct more detailed studies on the most promising options to assess their technical, economic, and environmental feasibility, providing a basis for piloting and implementing industrial symbiosis models at Tan Do Industrial Park.
