UNIDO presents the Access-to-Finance Tool for EIPs at the GIZ workshop “Financing Circular Economy – Insights for Practitioners in Viet Nam”
On 28 March 2023, at Pan Pacific Hotel, Hanoi, the Central Institute for Economic Management (CIEM) and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) organised a workshop on “Financing Circular Economy – Insights for Practitioners in Viet Nam”. Dr. Tran Thi Hong Minh, President of CIEM chaired the workshop.
The workshop highlighted that there is a need to raise awareness on circular economy and related investments among all stakeholders. Capacity of the financial sector to screen and select investment opportunities in the circular economy have to be strengthened through training and supportive guidelines. Such efforts should be closely aligned with the green taxonomy under development and its future implementation. Moreover, bankable business models need to be developed and studied in more detail to provide concrete blueprints for further investments to follow.
Ms. Nguyen Tram Anh, National Technical Specialist, UNIDO, was invited to join in the panel discussion together with Mr. Tran Anh Quy - Head of State Policy Credit Department - Credit Department for Economic Sectors - State Bank of Vietnam; Mr. Nguyen Anh Duong, Head of General Research Department, CIEM; Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Phuong, Deputy Director of Corporate Banking Department, BIDV; and Mr. Hoang Duc Vuong, Chairman of Vietcycle Corp. The discussion revolved around the concept of circularity, specifically in areas of current concern such as: green credit, recycling industry and circular finance. Sharing experiences on the support that the Eco-Industrial Park (EIP) Project has provided to enterprises and industrial park management, Ms. Nguyen Tram Anh, speaking on behalf of the Eco-Industrial Park project under the Global Eco-Industrial Park Programme (GEIPP), said that UNIDO has recently developed an Access-to-Finance Tool (A2F Tool) to support park management entities and tenant companies to identify, review and access available financing options for EIP investments. 64 organizations and mechanisms which provide financing to green investments as well as guidance on how to access these have been included in the Tool. The A2F Tool will assist IP and businesses in transforming into EIPs and eco businesses towards a circular economy. The delegates attending the workshop, especially those from the business sector, highly appreciated the Tool and some requested support for specific businesses that need access to the green finance.
